Offer optional client sign-in and favorite staff on your booking page

What it is

Your booking page can offer your clients an optional sign-in. A client who signs in sees a list called "Your appointments" with their visits at your business, and can mark team members as favorites. A favorited team member is picked for them automatically the next time they choose a service that person does, and their past appointments with that person carry a "Favorite" tag.

Signing in is never required. A client with no account still books with their name and phone number, exactly as before, and the booking page confirms "You don't need an account". The client's sign-in belongs only to the booking page. It has no connection to your admin account, and it never gives access to your diary, your team or your settings.

Your clients' favorites are private to each client. You cannot see them anywhere in the admin, and there is nothing for you to set up or approve.

Before you start

  1. Sign-in must be switched on for your booking page. It is part of how your booking page is set up on Zelun's side, not a setting you find in your account. If your booking page shows no Sign in link, sign-in is not switched on for you. Ask Zelun support to enable it.
  2. Team members who can be booked online. Favorites are hearts on the team member cards, so a team member needs to be bookable for a service on your booking page. See the staff directory article.
  3. A shared booking page. Clients sign in from your booking page, so share the link.

Steps

  1. Open your booking page in a browser, as a client would, and look for the Sign in link on the page. If it is there, sign-in is available.
  2. Sign in yourself as a test client. A window opens where the client signs in or creates an account. Then choose a service and, at the With step, look for a heart on each team member card.
  3. Tap a heart to add that person to your favorites. The label for that button is Add to favorites, and once chosen it becomes Remove from favorites.
  4. Choose another service that the favorite also does. The page picks them for you at the With step.
  5. Look at Your appointments on the page. Appointments with a favorite team member show "Favorite" next to them.
  6. To follow what clients book, open Book in the sidebar and choose the location. Bookings made by signed-in clients appear in the appointment book like any other.

What your clients see

  • Without signing in. Nothing changes. They pick a service, a person and a time, enter their name and phone, and press Confirm.
  • Signing in. They press Sign in. A sign-in window opens on your booking page. Once in, they see Your appointments, the list of their appointments at your business with the service, the date and the status. If there are none yet, the page says "No appointments at this business yet." They can press Sign out at any time.
  • Saving a favorite. While signed in, each team member card at the With step shows a heart. Tapping it adds or removes that person from the client's favorites without choosing them for this booking.
  • Pre-selected favorite. When they pick a service that a favorite team member performs, that person is chosen for them. They can still pick another person, and doing so does not change their favorites.
  • Favorite tag. In Your appointments, any appointment with a team member who is currently a favorite shows "Favorite". If the client removes the favorite, the tag disappears.
  • Per business. Favorites belong to your business. They show on every location of it.
  • Favorites can be saved for team members only. There is no heart for choosing a favorite location.

Common mistakes

  • No Sign in link on the page. Sign-in is not switched on for your booking page. Ask Zelun support. It is not something you can enable in your settings.
  • Thinking clients must sign in to book. They never have to. Guests keep booking with their phone number.
  • Expecting to see clients' favorites in the admin. The admin does not show them, and they cannot be edited from there.
  • Giving a client's sign-in more power than it has. A client sign-in cannot open the admin, whatever email address the client uses.
  • A favorite not offered for a service. The pre-selection only happens when that team member is bookable for the chosen service. Otherwise the client picks as usual.
