Set a promo code and apply discounts so clients pay the right amount

What it is

Zelun can lower the price of an appointment in three steps. They always apply in the same order, and each one starts from the result of the one before:

  1. Sale price. A service can have a sale price that is lower than its normal list price. When it has one, that is the starting price.
  2. Company promo code. Your company can have one promo code. It takes off either a percentage or a fixed amount.
  3. Line discount. When you book at the desk, you can add one more discount, again a percentage or a fixed amount.

The result is the net price the appointment is booked at. It is never below zero. Only one promo code can apply to an appointment, and codes never stack with each other.

At checkout, some Clients can lower the price further with things they have earned, such as loyalty points, referral credit or a prepaid package. Those come after the three steps above. They are covered in the checkout article.

Before you start

  1. Decide which discounts you want. You can use any one of the three steps, or all of them together.
  2. Know where to find them. The promo code and the sale price are set on the My business screen, in the Setup group of the left menu. If you are sent to a Forbidden page, ask the account owner to set these for you.
  3. Fixed amounts are typed in cents, not pesos. The fixed-amount option is labelled Amount (cents). Percentages are typed as a plain number from 0 to 100.

Steps

Put a service on sale

  1. Open My business and go to Catalog, then Services.
  2. Add or edit a service. In Sale price (USD, optional), type the sale price. Leave it blank to charge the list price. The sale price cannot be higher than the list price.
  3. Press Save service. The service now shows its list price next to the sale price.

Set or clear the company promo code

  1. Open My business and stay on Overview. Find the Promo code card.
  2. In Code, type the code your clients or staff will use.
  3. In Kind, choose Percent or Amount (cents).
  4. In Value, type the number. For a percentage, 10 means ten percent off. For an amount, type it in cents.
  5. Press Save promo.
  6. To stop using the code, press Clear. The code is removed and nobody can apply it any more.

Apply a code or a discount to a desk booking

  1. In the diary for your location, press Add to create a booking.
  2. In Promo code (optional), type the code exactly as you saved it. If the code does not match your company's current code, the booking is refused and nothing is created.
  3. Under Line discount (optional), choose Percent or Amount (cents), then type the number in Discount value (optional). Leave it as None for no extra discount.
  4. Finish the booking as usual. The price is worked out in the order above and saved on the appointment.

What your clients see

  • A service on sale shows its sale price on your own screens, with the list price beside it.
  • Clients pay the net price after every step that applied. The receipt at checkout lists the service at that net amount.
  • Clients do not type a promo code themselves. Staff enter the code when booking at the desk.
  • Changing a service's price, its sale price or your promo code later does not change appointments that were already booked. They keep the price they were saved with.

Common mistakes

  • Typing a fixed amount in pesos. The promo and line discount amounts are in cents, while a service's sale price is typed as a normal amount such as 40 or 40.00.
  • Expecting two codes to work together. A company has one promo code, and only one code applies to an appointment.
  • Mistyping the code at the desk. An unknown code is refused and the booking is not saved. Check the spelling against the Promo code card.
  • Expecting a new promo code to change old bookings. It only affects bookings made after you save it.
  • Looking for the discount fields at checkout. The promo code and line discount are entered when the booking is created. The checkout screen lets you redeem loyalty points, referral credit or a package, but it has no promo code field.
