Set up loyalty points that clients earn and redeem at checkout

What it is

Loyalty points let a client earn a little back on every service they pay for, and spend those points as a discount on a later visit. Points are added automatically at checkout, and a client has one balance across all your locations.

The program is controlled by three settings for each location. It is off until you set them.

Before you start

  • The settings are in Inventory, in the Register tab, and each client's balance is on the Clients page. If you are sent to a Forbidden page, ask the person who manages your company account to set this up with you.
  • Decide three things: how many points a client earns for each whole currency unit of service, how much one point is worth when spent, and the smallest balance a client must have before they can spend points.
  • Settings are saved per location. A balance earned at one location can be spent at another, but each location uses its own earning rate and point value.

Steps

Turn points on

  1. Open Inventory, choose your location, and open the Register tab. Find Loyalty points.
  2. Fill Points earned per $1.00 of service. This is the number of whole points earned for each $1.00 of service paid. 0 turns the program off.
  3. Fill Point value at redemption (cents). This is how many cents one point is worth when spent. It applies when points are spent, not retroactively to points already earned. 0 turns spending off.
  4. Fill Minimum points balance to redeem. The client must have at least this many points before they can spend any.
  5. Press Save loyalty settings. The settings must be whole numbers, zero or higher, or Zelun shows an error.

Spend points at checkout

  1. Open the appointment in the appointment book and start the Checkout.
  2. When the client's balance reaches the minimum and the point value is set, the field Redeem points (up to ...) appears. It shows Balance and, as you type, the value of the points you are spending.
  3. Enter the points and press Apply. The value comes off the service line.

See and fix a balance

  1. Open Clients in the side menu, pick the client and open the Packages tab. It shows Loyalty points.
  2. Press View history to see Loyalty history: Earned at checkout, Redeemed at checkout and Manual adjustment.
  3. To correct a balance, press Adjust, enter a positive or negative whole number of points, write the required reason, and save.

What your clients see

  • Points are earned only on the first successful checkout of an appointment. Only the service part counts. Products sold, tax and tips do not earn points, and money paid with points does not earn again.
  • A client sees Your points on the page where they manage their booking, with the balance and what it is worth. They do not see the history or other clients.
  • They get the discount at the till: you apply it during checkout, so the client does not need to do anything online.

Common mistakes

  • Expecting points while the earning rate is 0. Nothing is earned until you set it.
  • Expecting to spend points while the point value is 0. The redeem field does not appear.
  • Setting a minimum higher than what clients can reach. The redeem field stays hidden until the balance reaches it.
  • Expecting a re-checkout to earn again. Changing a tip on an already checked-out appointment does not add points.
  • Spending more than the service price. The points value cannot exceed what is left of the service line, and Zelun rejects the checkout if you try.
  • Adjusting without a reason. A reason is required for every manual adjustment.
